Cairo Santos gave Chicago breathing room when another missed opportunity could have changed the night. His career long field goal finally pushed New England beyond one score range. Bears vs Patriots finished 30-24 at Soldier Field on Thursday, October 22, opening NFL Week 7.

However, the Bears needed more than a strong start. Caleb Williams delivered late, while Drake Maye kept the visitors close until the closing seconds.
Bears vs Patriots delivers two strong quarterback performances
Chicago improved to 5-2, while New England slipped to 4-3 and lost its three game winning streak. Both teams had entered Thursday Night Football with four victories and two defeats. Williams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Meanwhile, Maye finished 24 of 31 for 321 yards, two passing scores and one interception.
New England’s quarterback also ran for a touchdown. However, his end zone interception cost the Patriots an opportunity in a game they never led.
Chicago’s official game summary shows the importance of the opening quarter. New England won the second period 14-10, while both teams added seven points in the third and three afterward.
Earlier, Chicago had stopped Maye on fourth down, giving William possession near midfield to launch the opening scoring drive. Consequently, Chicago’s initial 10-0 advantage gave the hosts enough room to survive the response. Neither quarterback lacked production execution around scoring opportunities separated these teams.
Burden turns catches into early points
Luther Burden III caught all four targets for 130 yards and a touchdown. His early receptions helped Chicago establish field position, before D’Andre Swift supplied a rushing score.
Maye answered on the ground, but another Santos field goal made it 13-7. Then Burden turned a screen on third and 17 into a 24 yard touchdown, extending Chicago’s advantage to 20-7. However, the Patriots still had one play left before halftime.
Stevenson punishes Chicago’s aggressive pressure
Rhamondre Stevenson caught a short Maye pass and accelerated through space for a 48 yard touchdown. As a result, New England reached halftime trailing 20-14 instead of facing a 13-point deficit.
Chicago’s six man pressure left room behind the rush. Similarly, Eli Raridon later exploited another six-man rush for a 30-yard touchdown reception. Those plays kept the Patriots alive. However, Chicago’s aggressive approach also produced stops when New England needed another answer.
Chicago survives the final-quarter pressure
Colston Loveland’s touchdown catch restored a 13-point lead after halftime, before Raridon reduced the gap to 27-21. Bears vs Patriots then became a contest over possession and remaining time.
Santos missed a field goal, but Chicago’s defense subsequently forced a punt. Later, Williams found Rome Odunze for 21 yards on third and nine from Chicago’s own 10.
That conversion extended the possession. Eventually, Santos struck from 58 yards with 1:34 remaining, making the score 30-21.
