Early goals give Rayados a cushion

Monterrey entered the match needing a stronger result after an uneven league run. They had managed just one victory in their previous six league games.

However, the opening spell gave the home support a different performance to enjoy. Rayados turned their early opportunities into a two goal cushion and carried that advantage into halftime.

Lucas Ocampos remained involved after failing to convert from the penalty spot. Later, he tried his luck from distance, while Corona came close to adding another before the interval.

For Monterrey, the challenge changed as the match progressed. Their strong start had created a favourable position, but the final stages would demand concentration and defensive work. Three points still depended on protecting the advantage they had built before halftime.

Rossi reacts after Moreno saves the penalty

Ocampos followed the loose ball, and Rossi finished the resulting scramble in the 13th minute. The episode rewarded Monterrey’s reaction after the initial save.Instead of allowing the missed penalty to disrupt their momentum, Rayados immediately made the chance count.

Corona finishes Ocampos’s counterattack

Three minutes later, Pachuca lost possession and Ocampos drove forward on the break. He released Corona, who lifted his finish over the advancing Moreno for 2-0.

Moreover, the move showed why the visitors’ early mistakes proved so expensive. Monterrey had the speed and accuracy to turn a turnover into another goal. Corona had now helped earn the penalty and scored the second himself.
